Soapstone Carving...

I run workshops in soapstone carving for individuals, small and large groups. I guide people through the process from a piece of rough stone, through shaping and polishing to achieve a finished piece. This can be done with files called ‘riflers’ or with hammer and chisels, depending on the size of the stone and the desired effect. First I selected a piece of stone, then carve out a rough shape. This can then be smoothed with finer riflers. If I need to define depth I use paint in different colours.

I then polish the soapstone with sandpaper and water. A lot of care has to be taken with this part of the process so as not to put scratches back into my work. Finally I oil and polish the stone.

If you would like to attend a workshop, book me to run a workshop or just go on my mailing list please feel free to contact me.

Drawing and Painting...

My favourite medium for drawing and painting is with oil pastels. I use various methods for blending and mixing colours but mainly I use my hands so my work is very tactile.
